The plants that have evolved in this region over millennia provide a better understanding of forest and habitat succession. The negative effects of even small amounts of noise and light pollution on wildlife are well- documented. Wildlife will avoid areas with even a modest increase in noise and light, which in turns will have detrimental effects on the plants in the area and even the nutrients that support the health of the river. It is incredibly important that we have respect for the area not only for the organisms that call the American River Parkway home, but also for the students that so desperately need a deeper connection to the natural world.
